About me
Joe Ferreira is Professor (Post-tenure) of Urban Information Systems at MIT. His undergraduate degree (in electrical engineering) and his PhD (in operations research) are from MIT where he has been on the Department of Urban Studies and Planning faculty ever since. He uses GIS and urban analytics to model land use, transportation, and environmental interaction and build sustainable information infrastructure for supporting urban and regional planning. He is past President of URISA (1998-99) and has been principal investigator of numerous research projects studying urban performance measures, urban
development impacts, and coordinated policies for housing and transportation improvement.
